If you've been summoned to the Cadena-Reeves Justice Center in downtown San Antonio, you might be wondering if the pay is worth the drive. Here is how Bexar County handles juror compensation.
The Daily Rate
In accordance with Texas law, Bexar County pays $20 for the first day of appearance. If you are chosen for a trial that extends beyond one day, the rate goes up to $58 per day starting on day two. Checks are typically mailed to your home address a few weeks after your service ends.
Where to Park
Bexar County provides free parking for jurors at the South Frio Street Garage (211 S. Frio). It is a bit of a walk to the courthouse, but the county usually runs a free shuttle service from the garage directly to the justice center. This is a huge perk, as downtown San Antonio parking can be pricey.
Handling Financial Hardship
Because Texas employers are not required to pay you while you serve, losing a day's wages for a $20 check can be devastating for hourly workers. If you cannot afford to serve, you must submit a hardship request through the Bexar County online portal before your summons date. You will need to provide a solid reason, not just a generic complaint about the pay.
