βœ… Quick Summary: Called to serve in downtown Lancaster? Jurors are compensated at $9/day. We break down the complicated downtown parking situation and how to ensure your employer handles your time off legally.

What Lancaster County Pays Jurors

Receiving a jury summons in Lancaster County means you'll be participating in the state judicial process at the downtown courthouse. The compensation is set uniformly across Pennsylvania.

For the first three days of your service, you will be paid a flat rate of $9.00 per day. If you are seated on a jury for a longer trial, your pay will increase to $25.00 a day starting on the fourth day. You will also get a minor travel allowance of 17 cents per mile based on your zip code.

Downtown Lancaster Parking Logistics

The Lancaster County Courthouse is situated in the heart of the city (50 North Duke Street). Because it's a busy downtown area, you cannot rely on street parking.

  • Duke Street Garage: The court typically advises jurors to park in the Duke Street Parking Garage, located directly across from the courthouse.
  • Validation: The jury commission office will provide you with a parking validation voucher. Do not lose your original parking ticket, as you will need both the ticket and the voucher to exit the garage for free.

Dealing with Your Employer

In Lancaster County, like the rest of PA, your job is protected while you serve. Your boss cannot fire you, force you to work a night shift if you served all day, or penalize you. However, the law does not require them to pay your standard wages. Discuss the situation with your HR department as soon as your summons arrives in the mail.
