βœ… Quick Summary: Reporting to Wilkes-Barre for jury duty? Luzerne County jurors get $9 a day. We detail the courthouse parking options and how state law affects your paycheck while you serve.

Luzerne County Juror Pay

If you've been called for jury duty in Luzerne County, your service will take place at the historic courthouse in Wilkes-Barre. Like all PA state courts, the pay is uniform.

You will receive a daily stipend of $9.00 for your first three days of service. If a trial lasts beyond three days, the pay increases to $25.00 a day. Luzerne County also reimburses jurors for their commute at a rate of 17 cents per mile.

Wilkes-Barre Parking Guide

Parking around the Luzerne County Courthouse can be challenging if you don't know where to go. The county has arrangements to ensure jurors are accommodated.

  • Free Juror Parking: Jurors are generally instructed to park in designated lots or garages (such as the Water Street lot or an adjacent garage).
  • Validation: You must bring your parking ticket or your summons with you into the courthouse to have it validated by the court staff. Do not park at street meters.

Handling the Time Off with Your Boss

In Pennsylvania, it is illegal for an employer to retaliate against an employee for serving on a jury. However, they are under no obligation to pay your salary for those days. If your employer refuses to pay you, the $9/day from the court might not be enough to cover your bills. If you face a severe financial hardship, you can petition the court to be excused before your service date.
