"If you get summoned to a United States District Court rather than your local county court, congratulations! Not only is the daily pay higher ($50/day), but the mileage reimbursement is significantly better."
Unlike state courts, which often pay a dismal 15 to 20 cents per mile, the federal court system reimburses jurors at the standard government mileage rate for privately owned vehicles. For 2026, this rate fluctuates around 67 cents per mile, round-trip.
Because federal courthouses are usually located in major downtown districts and pull jurors from a much wider geographic radius than county courts, this round-trip reimbursement can easily amount to $40 or $50 a day if you live far from the city.
In addition to the per-mile rate, federal courts fully reimburse jurors for road tolls and parking fees. You must keep your receipts! If you park in a garage or pay a toll booth, keep the paper receipt and present it to the jury clerk at the end of your service.
When you arrive for federal jury duty, the clerk will have you fill out a juror attendance and travel form. You will list your home zip code, the number of miles driven, and attach your parking receipts. The court will process this, and you will receive a single check containing your $50 daily pay plus your total travel reimbursements.
