Florida handles juror compensation a bit differently than other states. Before you drive an hour to the courthouse in Miami or Orlando, you need to know exactly what the state will (and will not) pay for.
Here is the bad news: Unlike the federal government, the State of Florida does not provide a separate mileage reimbursement for state or county jury duty. There is no 'cents per mile' calculation added to your check.
Instead of calculating mileage, Florida pays a flat rate that is supposed to cover everything (travel, lunch, time). The pay structure is:
Florida is an 'at-will' state and does not legally require employers to pay for jury duty. Therefore, if you are an hourly worker who loses their shift, you are expected to use that $15 to cover your gas, parking, and meals. Because of this, public transit or carpooling is highly recommended if you are serving in a congested area like Miami-Dade or Broward county.
Florida state courts do NOT pay a separate mileage reimbursement. You only receive the flat $15/day fee (if unpaid by your job), which is expected to cover your travel costs.
